Many online marketers, entrepreneurs, and bloggers don't take personal branding seriously. They believe that all you need to succeed is to know how to market on social media and promote your business.


Success doesn't come by itself. Those of you who follow my independent journey know that I constantly emphasize that it takes a lot of energy and hard work. If you're not doing what you truly love, what your passion is, it's hard to motivate yourself to do everything that needs to be done.

Building a personal brand is never-ending. People prefer to do business with other people, not with companies. Building a personal brand gives your business credibility and authenticity. But that couldn't be further from the truth.


Personal branding is one of the key ingredients for a successful online business.

So let's look at what you shouldn't do when building a personal brand:



1. IF YOU ARE NOT AUTHENTIC

Authenticity cannot be forced. Authenticity comes when words and actions align. You don't promote yourself as "authentic." You simply are YOU. Being authentic means staying true to who you are, what you do, and who you serve. Don't pretend, but embrace who you really are.




2. IF YOU DON'T TAKE YOUR PERSONAL BRAND SERIOUSLY

3. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT STRATEGY OR ANY STRATEGY AT ALL

If you don't know what you're doing, you'll be lost. You need a plan to take yourself, your knowledge, your values, and your company from the initial stage to recognition. A development strategy is a process that starts where you are today and ends where you want to be in the future.


The plan should outline all the tactics, tools, and skills you will need to achieve your goal. A carefully planned and written strategy means that you prepare and write down all the details, remove all doubts and uncertainties, and are completely clear about what you will do to reach your goal.


To be honest, over 95% of entrepreneurs don't have a well-written personal brand strategy . That's why they soon give up and say it's just a waste of valuable time.

4. IF YOU DON'T CREATE YOUR OWN CONTENT

Don't do this! Buying followers will hurt your exposure. Your posts will be seen by fewer people, which means less traffic. Would you trust someone who buys followers? Would you still see them as an influencer?


Your databases should be of high quality. Don't just work on the number of followers or contacts.

6. IF YOU PUT QUALITY SECOND

However, I see many people opting to post too many posts that have no value to their audience. Focus on quality! Instead, create great and valuable posts and videos that will help your followers.




7. IF YOU DON'T ANALYZE YOUR RESULTS

If you think that analysis is boring and you don't need it, you are very wrong! It is crucial, because the results will tell you whether you have a good strategy or not. By analyzing all the important parameters, you will know what you need to change and what needs to be done more. It may be boring now, but when you start achieving better and better results, believe me, you will fall in love with it 🙂.


In entrepreneurship, you're always going to dislike everything you have to do . There will be boring and difficult parts that you won't enjoy. But over time, you'll get used to them and learn to love them.




8. IF YOU ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND RESPONSIVE ON MESSENGER

Have you ever heard that messenger is an extremely powerful tool? Well, now you have 😉 Think about what you actually have - a powerful tool that can connect you with almost anyone in the world, and it's completely free. Start talking to your audience and connect with them on a more personal level. This way you build trust faster. Sometimes we don't appreciate free things enough. Don't make this mistake, take advantage of everything that is available to you.




9. IF YOU DON'T SHARE YOUR STORY

If you've never shared your story , I recommend it. I know it can seem scary, but sometimes we have to show our vulnerability. It makes us real.


Plus, your audience will be able to connect with you more quickly. Many people have the same or similar problems as you. If you share your story with them about how you felt when you faced those problems and what you did to overcome them, they will connect with you more easily and quickly. Who wouldn’t want to hear a solution to their problem, right?




10. IF YOU DON'T SHOW YOURSELF AS AN EXPERT IN YOUR FIELD

Promoting your personal brand and what you offer will make you interesting. However, it is your expertise that will make people follow you and buy your products or services. Focus on the area you are best at.


You can showcase your expertise in the following ways:


• You write a blog and create content with high added value for your followers.

• You host and network with other successful people in your niche.

• You are accessible and answer questions asked.

• You also participate with your comments on social media.

• You have great posts and tips on social media.




11. IF YOU DON'T CREATE VIDEO CONTENT

If you're not creating video content, you're missing out. Video content is an increasingly popular format. In video, the audience can see your face and hear your voice.


Who would you trust more:

To Person A, who hides exclusively behind texts

To Person B, who is not afraid to expose and show off her face and her figure ☺

I'll give you the answer - 99% of people will say person B. You might feel scared to make a video at this point. It's not that bad. You just have to start and step out of your comfort zone. Then it gets easier and after a while you'll be "banging your head" why you didn't do it sooner.

12. IF YOU FOCUS ONLY ON MONEY

Financial freedom is the goal of everyone who decides to pursue an independent entrepreneurial path. After all, the money that comes into your business account is an indicator that you are doing a good job. However, money should not be your only motivation. With this approach, you will quickly complete your independent entrepreneurial journey.


You need to know WHY you do what you do. Your "why" is the deeply rooted set of beliefs, values, and passions that drive you to do what you do. Your "WHY" sets you apart from millions of other people in the world. The power of inspiration and creation always begins with a clear answer to "WHY" you do something.
