Companies formed by people who think the same way and have the same background will not survive. This was said by Cleber Morais, president of Schneider Electric in Brazil, to Isto É Dinheiro magazine in early 2018.

He is right. Today, diversity in companies must be one of the main issues to consider if we are to improve efficiency, productivity and results.

Plurality is essential to generate innovation and creativity . It is necessary to think about how to create a new model in organizations to bring together diverse cultures, beliefs and origins, for an environment favorable to new ideas.

Technology is important, yes, but when we talk about innovation, the human side is paramount.

It is safe to say that few companies will survive the latvia email list so-called digital transformation, which is already underway, if they do not cultivate diverse teams. In other words, to be successful in the digital age, not only technological changes are essential, but also cultural ones.

This means valuing different ideas for the sake of a common good: the sustainability of the company. Gender equality and employee profiles that represent the variety found in society are one way, but not the only one.

In this article, you will understand how to encourage diversity and inclusion in companies and how innovation management can be influenced in this regard. Check it out!

Encouraging diversity in companies

Earlier this year, North Carolina and Portland State Universities in the United States released data on more than three thousand large companies, based on a database from the MSCI ESG research institute, which evaluates talent attraction and retention policies aimed at women, racial minorities and LGBTQI+ people.

The analyses were conducted between 2001 and 2014, with impressive results. It was shown that organizations with structured diversity and inclusion policies and practices have what was called “innovative effectiveness” – perceived as an increase in the company’s value in the market.

This survey is already a good justification for you to look for companies with this philosophy or even, if you are a leader or entrepreneur, start thinking about talent attraction processes with this bias.

After all, to encourage plurality , a company's selection processes need to provide equal opportunities for all candidates.

What the Brazilian market is practicing

Many national and multinational companies operating in Brazil have good practices for diversity aimed at innovation. A great example is Microsoft, whose CEO is Paula Beluzzi.

When asked by Folha de São Paulo last August about the difference between men and women in the job market, the manager commented: “I know that prejudice exists, and the numbers reveal this. My job is to help eliminate barriers.”

Another company that contributes to diversity in companies is the fintech Nubank. Co-founder Cristina Junqueira, also told Folha, that diversity is a key element for any type of innovation.

“The participation of people with different experiences is essential to ensure that we have ideas with the potential to revolutionize old ways of thinking,” added Junqueira.
