Standalone Gmail campaigns were made “read-only” back in July 2021. As of this date, advertisers have lost the ability to create new standalone Gmail ads or campaigns. A formal retirement date has now been announced , meaning advertisers using these types of campaigns will need to find new alternatives, such as Discovery campaigns , to test well in advance of the deadline to minimize performance impacts .

Google Smart Shopping and Local campaigns will automatically become Performance Max
It was already well known that Google Smart Shopping and Local campaigns would be replaced by Performance Max in 2022. The company offers the possibility to upgrade starting from April 2022 for Smart Shopping and from June 2022 for Local, with a single click, through a specific function in Google ADS.
